History of PRIJUT 12
In 1927 11 Russian alpinists, who wanted to climb Mount Elbrus, built a shelter made of stone into the rocks that stick out of the glacier 4200 meters above sea level, to protect themselves from the icy windstorm. Here they originated five years later the first refuge “Prijut 11” reminding of the 11 alpinists from 1927.
Mount Elbrus is located in the Caucasus Mountains and is the highest mountain in Europe. In the fifties “Prijut 11” was renewed. This legendary timber construction with aluminum cladding could accommodate up to 100 climbers and was base camp for the crucial climb to the peak of Mount Elbrus.
1996 “Prijut 11” burned down.
Our “Prijut12” the refuge next to the summer bobsleigh track was established on the 5th of February in 2000. We hope that everyone who stops for a bite to eat feels as comfortable as the 11 climbers of Mount Elbrus in the
“Prijut 11”
